Location and offerings

In Prague you will find a wide selection of hotels in all categories. Among business hotels the preferred locations are a bit scattered. Some of the most popular hotels are located right in the center while others are located further out of the center most often near the on/off ramps to the major highways. The preferences of families with children look about the same. Many families enjoy a quiet and relaxing location, close a green space or park. Couples choose almost exclusively places in the city center, close to Prague's famous historic district. They often choose a fancy hotel with beautiful rooms and suites.

There are many good budget hotels and several have relatively central locations. The others are usually a little outside the city center. Budget accommodations often have dorm rooms and shared bathrooms.
The most popular luxury hotels are located exclusively in the inner parts of the city center. Some are located near the river, overlooking the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle.
A good starting point when looking for accommodations is to first think through what you want out of your stay, and then select your hotel from there.

Attractions and sights

Prague is one of Europe's most visited capitals and there is much to discover. The most striking is perhaps the city in itself, with it’s winding cobbled streets, beautiful old palaces and quaint houses. Prague Castle is a unique construction and is considered the world's largest palace. There is also the popular Gold alley to visit. In the midst of the city lies the famous Charles Bridge, which dates back from the 1300s. The bridge tends to attract large numbers of visitors. In the city there are also several churches, as St Vitus cathedral, beautiful parks and natural areas such as the Vitkov and Petrin parks.

Restaurants, shopping and nightlife

In Prague there is a wide range of restaurants, cafes and other entertainment venues. But the city is best known is the city for its breweries and pubs. Zizkov is considered one of Europe's most famous pub districts with many visitors coming from all over the world. There are plenty of restaurants including many of very high class. The city has a rich cultural life and in the big O2 arena there are often concerts, shows and other major sporting events. There are many other smaller venues with live bands and music.

Trade shows and events

In a popular city such as Prague, hotels often become booked up at certain times. During the high season in June-July is when the most tourists are in town and then it can be difficult to find a place, especially if you have special requests regarding your accommodation. During large trade shows, major concerts or sporting events such as the Prague Marathon, as well as during the annual Christmas market it can be difficult to find a good room. Be aware that the more popular hotels can become completely booked up. Please be sure to book in advance if you wish to stay at any particular hotel.

Travel to and in the city

Prague International Airport Václav Havel is also known as Ruzyně. Many tourists arrive here by air. The airport is located just over one mile outside the city and from here you can comfortably get into the city by local bus or taxi. It might be a good idea to book a transfer before the trip, to avoid having to fuss with it on arrival. Many hotels offer their own shuttle service for a fee.

Many also travel to Prague by car. Then one should ensure that there are parking facilities near the hotel. Some public car parks are free, but hotels often offer custom options. These are often very expensive. Those who travel in Europe arrive sometimes even by train. Then one steps out right in the center of the city.

Once in Prague, there are good buses, metro and the tram. Tickets are valid for all route types, so it's easy to switch modes when you need to. It is better to use public transport rather than hailing a taxi. If you must take a taxi, it is good to book by phone from a taxi company, for there are plenty of dishonest drivers. It's also a good idea to ask for the price before starting the journey, so you are not overcharged for your journey.

Weather and climate

The climate in Prague is variable and is reminiscent of that in southern Scandinavia. Winters are relatively cold, while the summers can be very hot. Best time to visit the city is the end of May, June and September, when the weather is the most pleasant. The greatest accumulation of tourists tends to be during the high season in July-August when it is also at its warmest. If you decide to visit the city during this period it is a good idea to choose a hotel with proper air conditioning.

Price structure

Prague is still a relatively inexpensive city to visit. It may be wise to look away from the most popular tourist areas, for shopping and dining to avoid paying excessive prices.

City pass

The Prague Card can be a great way to save money. This card entitles the holder to free travel on public transport, express buses to the airport, free sightseeing and free admission to many sights and attractions. A variety of discounts for events and restaurants are also included.
