Hotel Guerrato, also known as Pensione Guerrato, is situated close to the Vaporetto stop Rialto Mercato, named after the lively fish and vegetable market which is also very near the hotel. It is just 180 meters away from the iconic Ponte di Rialto, perhaps the hotel's greatest asset. Other attractions and landmarks within Venice can be reached either on foot within a 15-20 minute walk or using a Vaporetto water bus.
The hotel is housed in a building that dates back to 1272 - one of the oldest original buildings still standing in the city. The traditional Venetian charm is mostly preserved in the interior of the hotel. The 18 rooms are simplistic, classically furnished, and big for the Venetian standards. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning. Most rooms have ensuite bathrooms but some share facilities.
There is a complimentary breakfast buffet, which includes a selection of pastries, fruits, and beverages. It is rather limited and doesn't change from day to day but is yummy anyhow. Note that you have to schedule it at the front desk in slots of 30 minutes - try to book earlier slots for greater variety. A packaged to-go bag can be prepared if you leave early. Vegan and vegetarian food is available with prior request.
The hotel doesn't have an elevator and those with mobility issues are advised to book only first-floor rooms. The top floor can take up to 70 steps of climbing!
All in all, Hotel Guerrato is the ultimate authentic Venetian experience. It is a family-run place and you get a kind of care and attention that you won't in a regular sterile hotel. All this character makes it a lovely hotel in a superb location and a stellar value for money.
