Hotel Bisanzio offers a great combination of traditional Venetian style and modern facilities.
Hotel Bisanzio is situated in the heart of Venice, just an 8-minute walk from the iconic Piazza San Marco. The Rialto Bridge is 15 minutes away. The hotel is in a small, peaceful alley, overlooks the St. Mark’s Basin, and is just around the corner from Chiezza della Pieta. The nearest Vaporetto (water bus) stop is just 200 meters away.
The building was built in the 16th century and for a long time served as a palazzo for a wealthy Venetian family. The Bisanzio has been family-managed since 1969.
The hotel offers 55 rooms and suites each with wooden floors, Murano-glass lamps, free wifi, and LCD TVs. There is also a bath or shower and a hairdryer. All this is good but the equipment and furniture look a bit tired and could use a touch-up. The bathrooms can also use some renovations. There is no AC, which is problematic during the hot summer days. Nevertheless, the hotel is clean and adequately maintained given the age of the building. Wifi is unreliable and very slow, even more so on higher floors. Some rooms include private terraces, with views.
A rich breakfast buffet is served every morning in the dining room. While the coffee is not the best, the food selection is high-quality and varied.
Hotel Bisanzio is not much for a 4-star establishment. While it looks glitzy from the outside, you'll quickly realize it's all dated and the minor flaws here and there do add up in the end. Given the price tag, it's safe to say there are better value-for-money offers out there.
