The New Yorker, a Wyndham Hotel, is a high-rise hotel in Midtown Manhattan, near Penn Station. It is close to Times Square and Madison Square Garden and is within five minutes of Macy's Department Store. The subway station at 34th Penn Street is right outside the hotel's entrance.

The hotel is designed in Art Deco and offers over 1000 rooms and suites. Standard rooms are very compact, typically around 125 square feet. A consolation is the view that the rooms on higher floors offer towards the Hudson River or the Empire State Building. Each room includes a wide flat-screen TV with free HBO, a hairdryer, an iron, and toiletries. Suites are bigger and some even have private balconies. The rooms lack kettles, coffee makers, microwaves, and mini-fridges.

For on-site dining, choose 24/7 The Tick Tock Diner which serves American classics and sandwiches. Another option is the more casual Italian restaurant Trattoria Bianca. Last but not least, try the Butcher & Banker for a unique experience: this steakhouse is located in a former bank vault.

Breakfast is included in some room rates and includes a good selection of various foodstuffs.

There is a large fitness center equipped with modern machines, but there is no spa or swimming pool. Still, a "resort fee" is charged daily regardless of whether you use the facilities - it is also used to cover the wifi fee.

In general, The New Yorker is in an excellent location and offers a unique Art Deco charm. However, most rooms are pretty small and their interiors are dated and look old, so the hotel needs an overhaul. The common facilities and restaurants bring up the score a little bit, so its value for money is average.
