Friendly hotel with a peaceful location on a Venetian courtyard near the Teatro La Fenice. The hotel is located in a walkable area and nearby are many fine shops, cafés and restaurants. Convenient walking distance to St. Mark's Square, the water bus stop and several of the city's beautiful canals.

Hotel Ateneo is a small hotel in the San Marco district, just 20 meters from the renowned Teatro La Fenice and about 200 meters from Piazza San Marco. Ponte Rialto is a 5-minute walk away. It's housed in a historic building that once served as the residence of wealthy merchants and the rich ambiance of ages past is still palpable, even though the hotel was recently renovated. Note that the hotel does not have an elevator.

The rooms' layout is practical and compact as the rooms are clean but also tiny and may feel cramped. The bathroom is even smaller, even for Venice.

All rooms have air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and complimentary wifi. Some rooms offer views of the hotel's private courtyard.

A continental breakfast is served daily in the hotel's dining area and included in the room rate. It offers choices for different tastes, which is great but the coffee is not the best. For other meals, you can find many restaurant options around the hotel.

In summary, Hotel Ateneo is a charming, a little regal, comfortable hotel in a very central location. If you're okay with a room that's a bed but not much more space, then it makes for a good hotel choice.
