Royal Princess Larn Luang - SHA Extra Plus is a charming boutique hotel located on Rattanakosin Island - Bangkok's historic area in the center of the city. The location is reasonably good, especially if you only want to explore the cultural sites of Bangkok like the numerous temples and the Grand Palace but there's not much in the immediate vicinity - you will have to walk about 15-20 mins to get to busier areas and more than 50 minutes to reach Siam and its shopping malls. While not close to any of the MRT stations, there are public bus lines crisscrossing near the hotel. Taxis are easy to organize too, and cheap.
The rooms are quite large and the beds are big too. Each room has a view of the city, and some also have balconies, but ask for a higher room if this is an important perk for you. All rooms have TVs, safety deposit boxes, mini-bars, individually controlled air-conditioning, hair dryers, and tea and coffee-makers. The rooms are generally clean but show wear and tear in many places like the carpets and the bathrooms.
The on-site restaurant serves delicious food but is a bit overpriced, and there aren't many other options nearby. The breakfast is exquisite with Thai and Western options, all very tasty.
There is a “gym” which is not more than a room with some weights. There is no spa on the premises. On the other hand, the swimming pool is large and beautiful with lots of seating around.
The hotel also boasts a nice garden with lots of greenery.
Royal Princess Larn Luang is a classic hotel with all the basics covered. The facilities are a bit dated but remain charming and convenient. The location isn't perfect but for a few nights, the hotel can still manage to give you a good lasting impression.
