The LOL Elephant Hostel is in a small, quiet alley in the otherwise noisy area around Khao San Road, the backpackers' party street. It is about 20 minutes on foot from the National Museum of Bangkok and 17 minutes from Wat Saket (the Golden Mount). Although not close to an SRT station, a couple of buses can connect you to one relatively quickly. Another transport option is the Chao Phraya public ferry - the Phra Arthit pier is a 15-minute walk away.
The hostel offers private double rooms with en-suite bathrooms and shared dormitories with bathroom facilities on every floor. Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and dorms. Some rooms have a small patio area. If you want a somewhat romantic double room, opt for the Sweet Canal suite, which offers a pleasant view of the Khlong Bang Lamphu Canal. Dorms, on the other hand, offer separate cabin-style beds with individual sockets and bedlights. Both rooms and dorms offer limited space and may feel small to most guests. There is no lift in the 4-storey building. In general, the design is modern and all accommodations are kept to a high standard of cleanliness.
The communal areas of the hostel comprise a lobby with a seating area, a pantry with cooking supplies, a fridge to store food and a microwave to reheat it, a small canal-view terrace, and a social common area.
In essence, The LOL Elephant Hostel is a backpacker's dream - clean, social, tidy, and close to major attractions and bars but in a quiet alley where sleep is possible and moreover - pleasant. Awesome value for the money.
