Our summary of Hotel Abbazia

Hotel Abbazia is a beautiful little hotel located in the Cannaregio district, just around the corner from Santa Lucia Train Station. The Ferrovia Vaporetto water bus stop is just a minute away on foot so exploring Venice via water is easy. If you like to walk, Ponte di Rialto is 1.6 km away without the need for boats and Piazza San Marco is about a 40-minute walk away.

The hotel is housed in a former Carmelite monastery with a lot of charm and historical significance. The rooms' wooden interior creates a cozy ambiance, complemented by some of the original features from the olden times. Still, some of the choices in the decoration are dubious and some rooms may feel a bit dark. All rooms have adjustable air conditioning, free wifi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries and hairdryers. Ask for a room with windows opening onto the internal garden area if you want a romantic Venetian feeling.

There is a complimentary breakfast buffet every morning, which includes a huge selection that would put some 5-star hotels to shame: a wonderful spread with so many options.

There is no bar at the hotel even though the former monks' dining area would make a wonderful setting. However, you're free to bring your own drinks there and you have many other bar/restaurant choices near the hotel.

The hotel's garden is pretty and a lovely place to relax on a sunny day.

Hotel Abbazia is perhaps a little rough around the edges due to the age of the building but it more than makes up for it with renovated rooms, a lovely setting, amazing breakfast, and impeccable service.
